Our imaging centres will offer services to all types of patients, sometimes using the same equipment, in the same room, by the same staff. In these circumstances the goal is not only to reduce the risk of infection to staff, but also to reduce the risk of cross infection among staff and patients. Therefore, patients must be segregated according to their risks.

A Super Sonic Sight
What are the benefits of ultrasound? Ultrasound exams do not use radiation as used in x-rays. It is safe and painless. Yet, ultrasound exam has some blind spots. Ultrasound waves are disrupted by bone, air or gas. Therefore, it is not an ideal imaging technique for lungs, guts or bony structures.

朋友蘭芳因胃痛去了某醫院作身體檢查，超聲波及電腦掃描報告指出左腎上腺長了一個約六厘米大的腫瘤。醫生說末期云云，需要盡快動手術；嚇得她方寸大亂，急忙找救兵。蘭芳於是找到了外科醫生，醫生看了片後說：「病原應該不是腎上腺，可能是其他種類的腫瘤，要作進一步的檢查。」醫生最後安排她作一個正電子電腦掃描檢查(PET-CT)。究竟PET-CT是一類怎樣的檢查？檢查目的為何？
